Kaamps Estate’s Klaverkaas

IMG_20130319_132025_286The Lady has some special cheese friends (think “special” as friends who give her cheese) and one of them is Jennae. Their cubes in the office are next to each other and they share cheese, knowledge and a “Mother-Daughter” type friendship… Jennae even calls her “Mom”… although, if truth be known… I am an only child… just sayin’…

But I digress… this past week, Jennae received a Christmas gift of cheeses and she shared with The Lady… and The Lady shared with The Man and Moi… her only child…

The cheese she shared is a Gouda from Holland, Klaverkaas, produced by Kaamps Estate, one of the last family-owned farms in The Netherlands.

This Gouda is made from fresh Holstein-Friesian milk and even though the rind is washed, it’s not stinky. What it delivers is a sweet, nutty flavor reminiscent of a vanilla custard.

The Lady, The Man and I did a tasting of this Gouda at room temperature and found this deep yellow cheese creamy with a lingering complexity.

I give Klaverkaas 4 Paws out of 4 Paws (cause that’s all I’ve got) and send a special shoutout to Jennae for sharing…

Serving Suggestions: On a cheese board, you’ll have everyone swooning… The Lady also made a oven-baked pancake using this cheese (the recipe immediately follows this review).

Wine Pairing: A red blend.

Beer Pairing: Stout

Hard Liquor: Bourbon
