Major Kudos for Alaska Airline’s Cheese and Fruit Plate

IMG_20131113_124508_567Flying back from Anchorage yesterday The Man and I decided to throw caution to the wind and order airline food, a scary proposition at best… imagine our surprise to discover a triangle of Beecher’s Flagship, two triangles of Tillamook Extra Sharp Cheddar (sitting on SG’s unfinished “To Do” list of reviews) and a nice wedge of creamy, buttery brie served with Seattle’s Partners Olive Oil and Sea Salt crackers and grapes… to borrow a phrase from our dear Spaulding Gray… Holy Smokes… now this is a cheese plate!!

Spaulding, as is well known, was a huge fan of pretty much any cheese that contained the name “Beecher’s” and in November 2009, he was named Tillamook’s “Fan of the Month”, an honor that he cherished. It was one of his first public “recognitions” for his love of cheese.

Although, they have not as yet been reviewed here (another unreviewed specialty food sitting on SG’s unfinished “To Do” list), we have had them around The Manse on many occasions.IMG_20131113_124728_546

Alaska Airlines walks the walk when it comes to supporting local producers: the airlines features local beers, local wines and local spirits to pair with the local foods they also offer. It’s quite impressive and if I might be so bold… other airlines should and could do better in their offerings to their passengers… Air travel these days is not much fun; at least Alaska Airlines is making it a bit more tolerable with quality foods and beverages.

Thanks!
