The good folks at Valley Fig are “Spreading the Love” this month by giving away a Four-Pack of their Orchard Choice Fig Spreads to one lucky reader. Details below.
These delicious spreads are made in California with California Figs and other California-grown ingredients (Oranges and Port Wine).
These fig spreads are the perfect addition to a romantic cheese plate for two and can also be used to make Valentine’s Day desserts even sweeter!
I first learned about Orchard Choice Fig Spread this past summer at the 2014 American Cheese Society Conference in Sacramento. A jar of the Fig-Orange Spread was included in our Welcome Goodie Bag.
Recently, before learning that my website had been chosen as one of a small handful of websites to participate in this sweet “Spread the Love” giveaway, I posted a review of Salt Spring Island Flower Chevre which I paired with the Fig Orange Spread… it was a pairing made in heaven. The tart, citrus notes of the cheese paired perfectly with the sweet, citrus notes of the spread. The combination was addictive and I had to fight The Man to get my fair share… as many of you know, sharing is not big with The Man… a trait his mother forgot to teach him… but I digress…
This past week, I made mini cheesecakes for him to enjoy while I am in Georgia helping The Tall Guy and Miss Anne with a few medical issues… watching parents age is not much fun…. one of the cheesecakes I made included a swirl topping of the Orchard Choice Organic Fig Spread. The cheesecake was made using DeZaan Dark Chocolate Chips. Before leaving I got a taste…like The Man, I swooned… I still have not mastered the skill of making cheesecake that looks pretty but it sure tasted mighty fine… to use a Miss Anne’s term: “It was luscious.” Recipe will follow soon…
The four spreads are:
- Fig Orange Spread – Summer’s best figs laced with a tangy twist of orange create a fruit spread ripe for pairing with cheeses, topping toasts, and brightening desserts.
- Organic Mission Spread – Sweet, earthy and bursting with fig flavor, our simple blend of summer’s best organic Mission figs pairs well with cheese, perks up yogurt, and tops toast in style.
- Balsamic Pepper Spread – It’s love at first bite when sweet figs join sassy balsamic vinegar and spicy black pepper. Brighten up cheese trays, garnish grilled meats…the possibilities are endless.
- Fig and Port Spread – Imagine sweet, luscious figs drenched in port and you have the makings of our elegant fruit spread. From appetizers to desserts, enjoy the possibilities..
I’ll be pairing the four spreads this week with cheeses sent my way by Marieke Penterman, whose interview you can read here and the new Citrus Ginger Sartori BellaVitano. My thoughts on these cheeses and these pairing will appear in the near future. The review of Marieke’s Goudas will be printed in the February ACS “Cheese Bytes” Newsletter.
