Our second Summer Giveaway starts today with a Trio of Kelly’s Jelly and a Trio of 34° Crisps; the beginning foundations for perfect pairings and complements. There are so many pairings that start with a Crisp and end with a dollop of jelly, jam or preserves – the in-between can be anything you enjoy from cheese to fruit to nuts to meats to drinks to whatever tweaks your taste buds.
When pairing keep in mind a few rules:
- Any pairing that you enjoy is a good pairing, which basically means there are no rules when it comes to pairing foods together.
- Opposites attract: Same as in personal relationships… if your cheese is salty such as a robust blue, then your pairing complement might be sweet such as Kelly’s Jelly or a nice sweet port or sauterne.
- If it grows together, then it goes together: You’ll find that items that grow in the same region naturally complement each other. Oregon Marionberry Preserves pair perfectly with Rogue Creamery Cheddar. Champagne pairs perfectly with Brie; both from the same region of France.
- Likes with Likes: A classic Cubano sandwich is bursting with flavor and a perfect pairing would be Kelly’s Habanero Jelly. Here you have two strong flavor palettes complementing each other. The same applies to milder foods; you might choose Tayberry Preserves to pair with a triple cream such as Brillat Savarin. In this pairing chooice, neither flavor profile overwhelms the other.
