Miss Anne’s Little Free Library

My mom, known locally as Miss Anne, was an avid reader all her life. She never traveled without several books and had a stack beside her favorite chair. There were books everywhere. When she passed away in 2017, I donated hundreds of books to Habitat For Humanity, her favorite charity. Her favorite books were romance novels and she would read the ending first to make sure it had a happy ending. Debbie Macomber was one of her preferred writers.

I, too, am an avid reader. My favorite genre is mystery/thriller. I read the entire Nancy Drew series as a young girl. As a member of the Goodreads Reading Challenge, I track my books and the last few years, I have read more than 125 book each year – in 2021 I read a record 153 books (of course with the pandemic scare, there wasn’t much else to do). I have read 99 so far in 2023 and it’s barely August.

In my sorta “retirement”, I became aware and interested in the concept of Little Free Libraries that began popping up around the country in cities and neighborhoods. From their website:

Our vision is a Little Free Library in every community and a book for every reader. We believe all people are empowered when the opportunity to discover a personally relevant book to read is not limited by time, space, or privilege.

I decided to honor my mom’s love of books by adding a Little Free Library to our front yard. It is open 24/7 and will be stocked with all genres for all age groups. “Banned” books will be included. If you live in the Lavonia are stop by and take a book, leave a book and fall in love with a book.

Charter number: 170842

Location: 44 Virginia Street, Lavonia, Georgia – it is mapped on the Little Free Library App.
