Calling All Restaurants: 1st Annual Mac n Cheese Smackdown – May 18, 2019

If you are a restaurant in the NE Georgia or Upstate Piedmont of South Carolina and you make a killer Mac N Cheese, then we want you on May 18th to enter the first annual Mac N Cheese Smackdown competition at Blue Haven Bee Company and Southern Origin Meadery.

Celebrating its 2nd anniversary making mead in Canon, Georgia, BHB and SOM are inviting you to show-off your culinary expertise in the Mac N Cheese area.

No fees for this first year and you can win bragging rights, trophies and gift certificates in one of 3 categories: Most Traditional Recipe, Most Creative Recipe and People’s Choice.

Limited to 25 restaurants – so contact me ASAP for an application.

What: First Annual Mac n Cheese Smackdown

Where: Blue Haven Bee Company and Southern Origin Meadery, Canon, Georgia

When: Saturday, May 18, 2019 – Noon to 5pm

Time to bring your best mac n cheese to the first annual Mac n Cheese Smackdown for NE Georgia and Upstate South Carolina!!

Southern Origin Meadery is celebrating its second anniversary on May 18th and introducing a new mead to celebrate the date.

Venue will be outdoors with live music.

Comfort food is part of our region’s history and Mac n Cheese is an all-important part of that history. Every family has its own recipe and every restaurant has its own version often based on the chef’s family recipe and history. Everyone has their favorite recipe, and many are considered protected secrets right up there with Coca Cola. Recipes are passed down through generations, with each generation tweaking with the recipe to claim it as their own… or if momma was… well momma… many of us are afraid to tweak and stay with the tried and true; protecting the recipe until daughters pry it from momma’s cold, dead hands.

So, in honor of this iconic Southern comfort, we thought it was time to find the best of the best in the NE Georgia and South Carolina Piedmont region and bestow some bragging rights.

The Smackdown will be open to restaurants in the NE Georgia and Upstate South Carolina area.

Entry limited to 25 restaurants. Entrants must provide enough mac n cheese for 250 two-ounce samples plus samples for each of the 3 judges. (You may enter in one or both categories: Most Traditional and/or Most Creative. If you enter both, you must supply 253 samples of each.)

Please join us as we celebrate the best mac n cheese in the area: we will be awarding three trophies, along with major bragging rights:

  1. Most Traditional Mac N Cheese
  2. Most Creative Mac N Cheese
  3. People’s Choice – the crowd will vote and decide

Winners of categories 1 and 2 will be announced at beginning of public event at noon. People’s Choice category winner will be announced at conclusion of event at 5pm.

Along with bragging rights, winning restaurants will receive Blue Haven gift certificates ($50 gift certificates in each of the three categories), recognition in all event advertising for the next year (with links to your website); trophies and certificates to display in your restaurants.

Deadline for applications is April 30th. Thanks for your interest. We are limiting participation to 25 restaurants.

No entrance fee for first year.

Estimated attendance: 250

Load in time on May 18th: 8am to 1100am. Please be at your site no later than 1030am. Be ready to serve judges at 1115am and the public starting at noon.

Provided by us/venue:

  • 2 ounce serving cups, napkins and forks.

Provided by you:

  • THE MAC! 2 oz. Samples for 250 guests.
  • 2 – 6’ tables with linen. Tent OK and recommended for weather concerns. Venue will be outdoors.
  • One dedicated garbage can per entrant.
  • Burners are okay, Sternos preferred. No LP.
  • Your own serving pieces and additional safety items (fire extinguisher, health and food safety items)
  • Banners to brand your table along with any other promotional materials you wish to bring.
  • Restaurants must furnish Temporary Food Service Permit ten (10) days prior to the day of the event. (May 8)
  • Set-up/Break-down to be completed by you/your staff.
  • A $250 fee will be charged if you do not cleanup your area before departing the event.

 *Please be prepared to bring your dish pre-prepared (preferred) or bring a mobile kitchen.
